Meat exporters from Germany and Taiwan target Philippine markets
German and Taiwanese meat industry representatives are actively seeking to expand their presence in the Philippines through different strategic approaches.
German meat and poultry exporters participated in a business mission organized by the German-Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GPCCI). This mission follows the restoration of German pork market access to the Philippines this year via a regionalization scheme, ending a six-year suspension caused by African swine fever. The conference in Makati included stakeholders from the Philippine Department of Agriculture and the Bureau of Animal Industry to facilitate business-to-business meetings.
Simultaneously, Taiwan is focusing on the export of processed pork products, such as sausages and jerky, rather than frozen shipments. Due to limited export volumes and high prices, Taiwanese officials suggest that processed goods offer better growth potential in the Philippine market. Taiwan’s fresh pork was approved for export to the Philippines in 2023, and recent promotional events in Makati have targeted hotel chefs and foodservice professionals to increase brand recognition.
