Meat industry faces supply and debt crises in Brazil and US

The meat industry is facing distinct operational challenges in Brazil and the United States. In Brazil, the FrigoRaça brand, operated by Falcão Indústria de Alimentos Ltda., is facing a crisis in Boca do Acre, Amazonas. The company reportedly owes over R$ 30 million to producers, leading to a backlog of cattle trucks and threatening the local economy. Investigations show the company operates across at least seven Brazilian states, including Amazonas, Rondônia, São Paulo, and Mato Grosso.

In the United States, immigration enforcement operations by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) are disrupting the beef supply chain. Industry entities and the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) union report that ICE actions in regions like southwest Kansas have led to worker apprehensions and significant delays in cattle shipments. These disruptions are affecting feedlots, processing plants, and transport companies, raising concerns that a reduced supply could drive up beef prices.
