MEC Livros digital library surpasses 1 million loans

Brazil’s digital library platform, MEC Livros, has surpassed 1 million book loans since its launch in April 2026. The free service currently hosts over 25,000 works and has attracted more than 1.3 million registered users.

To encourage broader literary engagement, the platform has doubled the monthly borrowing limit for works protected by copyright, increasing it from two to four titles per CPF. Books in the public domain remain available with unlimited access.

The catalog has also been expanded with 101 new titles across various genres, including science fiction, epic fantasy, dystopia, true crime, biography, and juvenile literature. Notable additions include George Orwell’s ‘1984’ and ‘Animal Farm’, Anthony Burgess’s ‘A Clockwork Orange’, and William Gibson’s ‘Neuromancer’.
