Mechanic dies in industrial accident at Nova Platina Bioenergia mill
A 40-year-old senior maintenance mechanic, Carlos Roberto Nazareno, died following a workplace accident at the Nova Platina Bioenergia sugar mill in Platina, Brazil. The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon while Nazareno was performing repairs on the mill's feeder conveyor belt.
According to preliminary reports, a sledgehammer fell onto the moving conveyor belt. When Nazareno attempted to retrieve the tool, he was pulled into the machinery and crushed by one of the sugarcane milling rollers. Emergency services, including SAMU and the Fire Department, responded to the scene, but the victim's death was confirmed on-site.
Due to the heavy industrial equipment, a crane was required to lift the roller and recover the body. The Civil Police and the Institute of Criminalistics have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances and causes of the accident. The Zambianco Group, which owns the mill, stated it is providing material and psychological support to the victim's family and is cooperating fully with authorities.
