Mechanical hysteroscopy effective for uterine lesion removal

Professor Rafał Stojko, President of the Polish Society of Gynecologists and Obstetricians, has highlighted the effectiveness of mechanical hysteroscopy for removing most pathological changes within the uterine cavity. This minimally invasive, high-tech method is used to treat fibroids, adhesions, septa, developmental abnormalities, and polyps.

Unlike older methods that relied on electric current and carried risks of tissue burns, modern mechanical hysteroscopy utilizes a specialized blade, known as a shaver, which does not require high temperatures. The procedure allows for the rapid removal of lesions, such as uterine fibroids, in as little as fifteen to thirty minutes under continuous optical magnification and visual control.

Professor Stojko noted that while the method is available in hospitals and reimbursed by the National Health Fund (NFZ), many patients remain unaware of its availability. He also emphasized its utility in removing fetal tissue remnants following miscarriages or abnormal pregnancies.
