Mecklenburg-Vorpommern police launch intensified traffic controls

Police in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern are conducting intensified traffic controls throughout September as part of the statewide safety campaign ‘Fahren. Ankommen. LEBEN!’. The operations involve both stationary and mobile units across eight police inspections within the Rostock and Neubrandenburg police precincts, including the Schwerin area.

Authorities are specifically targeting driver distraction caused by smartphones and other electronic devices, as well as violations of seatbelt requirements. Data from 2025 highlights the severity of these issues in the region, with more than 12,000 recorded mobile phone violations and over 3,500 seatbelt infractions.

Last year, nearly 600 traffic accidents in the state were attributed to distraction, resulting in injuries in approximately 150 cases. Specifically, 50 accidents were linked directly to the use of electronic devices, with nearly half of those involving personal injuries.
