Mecklenburg-Vorpommern seeks thousands of volunteers for state election

Thousands of volunteer election workers are preparing for the state parliament election (Landtagswahl) in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, scheduled for September 20. These volunteers are responsible for managing polling stations, verifying voter eligibility, distributing ballots, and counting votes after polls close.

In the state capital, Schwerin, approximately 800 workers are required for two electoral districts, with about 50 positions still being filled. Election supervisors in Schwerin receive a refreshment allowance of 45 euros, while other roles receive 35 euros.

Rostock, the state's largest city, requires 1,500 workers and is currently seeking reserve staff to ensure coverage in case of illness. Compensation in Rostock varies by role, ranging from 45 to 100 euros, with an additional 10 euros provided for attending mandatory training. In Greifswald, the city administration reports that sufficient volunteers have already signed up to cover its 42 general and 18 postal voting districts.
