Mecklenburg-Vorpommern students demand free transit and more teachers

The State Student Council in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has issued several demands ahead of the upcoming state elections to address systemic issues in the education sector. Key requests include the hiring of more teachers to combat significant lesson cancellations, particularly in rural areas, and the provision of a free Deutschlandticket for all students to ease travel costs and increase social participation.

Additionally, the student representatives are calling for improved working conditions to retain existing staff and a more responsible integration of artificial intelligence in classrooms. They emphasize that schools should teach the opportunities and risks of AI rather than implementing blanket bans. The council also highlighted the need for expanded school social work to address growing psychological pressures among students.
