Medan Mayor finds official vehicles with unpaid taxes and missing parts

Medan Mayor Rico Waas discovered several government official vehicles that had not paid taxes and were missing essential components such as license plates and side mirrors. The findings occurred during an inspection of official and operational vehicles held at the Lotte Grosir Medan parking lot on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.

During the assembly, 385 vehicles were inspected out of approximately 5,000 total government-owned vehicles. The inspection, conducted alongside Acting Regional Secretary Erfin Fachrurrazi and Acting Head of the Regional Financial and Asset Management Agency Suluh Aulia Harahap, covered everything from village-level motorcycles to vehicles used by sub-district heads and department chiefs.

Notable issues included a vehicle used by the Camat of Medan Area, which was found to be delinquent on tax payments. Rico Waas reprimanded the users of the problematic vehicles, emphasizing that government assets must be properly maintained, administratively compliant, and used strictly for official purposes rather than personal interests.
