Medan Mayor inspects Sei Asahan drainage construction

Medan Mayor Rico Tri Putra Bayu Waas inspected the construction of a 505-meter drainage system on Jalan Sei Asahan in the Medan Selayang district on Tuesday, June 29, 2026. The project is a continuation of a previous phase that completed 200 meters of drainage.

The area is situated in a relatively low-lying basin, making it prone to flooding where water levels can reach calf-height during heavy rainfall. To manage water volume, the system is designed to split the flow: part of the water is directed toward Sei Putih, while the remainder is discharged into Sei Selayang.

Mayor Waas emphasized the need for rapid government response to community complaints and stated that infrastructure improvements must directly enhance resident comfort and safety. He stressed that solutions should be implemented before flooding occurs rather than reacting after homes are inundated.
