Medan Mayor Rico Waas Named Father‑Role Ambassador Amid Calls for Better Appointments

Mayor of Medan, Rico Tri Putra Bayu Waas, was formally appointed as a Duta Penggerak Ayah Teladan (Father‑Role Ambassador) by the provincial BKKBN representative Mahyuzar. The ceremony on 5 August 2026 highlighted Waas’s advocacy for the national Father‑Role Movement, stressing that fatherhood is the highest role a man can hold and urging local officials to model strong family values.

Separately, political commentator Adi Warman Lubis criticised the recent appointment of a temporary city secretary, urging Mayor Waas to select a more experienced figure. Lubis argued that the city’s development has stalled and called for merit‑based placement of senior officials, including department heads, to fulfill campaign promises and improve public services.
