Medan police bust home‑made drug‑infused vape operation
Police from the Satresnarkoba unit of the Medan Police Department carried out a covert raid in Sunggal, Medan, on 6 June 2026, targeting a home‑industry producing illegal drug‑laden vape pods (known locally as POD Getar). The operation resulted in the arrest of a 26‑year‑old man identified only as “R”, a resident of Binjai Timur, and the seizure of extensive evidence.
Authorities confiscated 17 POD Getar units of various brands, 38 empty cartridges, six vape devices, three liquid bottles, an impulse‑sealer machine, syringes, plastic clips, and several mobile phones. Investigators found that R purchased narcotic‑filled PODs from a supplier, mixed the narcotic liquid with non‑narcotic vape liquid, and repackaged each original pod into three new pods for resale, markedly increasing profit while endangering users. Preliminary laboratory tests confirmed the presence of narcotics in the repackaged pods.
Police are coordinating with the North Sumatra police forensic laboratory to further analyze the seized materials and are pursuing the larger supplier (“bandar”) who provided the original narcotic‑filled pods. The investigation remains ongoing.
