The Confederation of African Football granted Category 2 approval to the Tarkwa‑based Tarkwa and Aboso (TnA) Stadium, enabling Ghana Premier League champions Medeama SC to host their 2026/27 CAF Champions League Preliminary Round fixtures at the venue. This approval marks the first occasion that Medeama and the town of Tarkwa will host continental club football, providing the club with home‑support advantage.

In preparation for the campaign, Medeama announced the signing of Hohoe United captain Usman Safianu on a three‑year free‑transfer deal. The 24‑year‑old defender, capable of playing as a full‑back or centre‑back, joins a side that conceded only 28 goals in 34 league matches last season and will be coached by Ibrahim Tanko as they aim to defend their domestic title and compete on the African stage.
