Medellín authorities arrest man known as ‘El Abuelo’ for 2022 homicide

Authorities in Medellín have arrested a 72-year-old man known as ‘El Abuelo’ in connection with a 2022 homicide in the Belén neighborhood. The victim was reportedly killed inside an apartment, and the body was later found in a vehicle trunk after being wrapped in plastic.

Investigators state the suspect was a former member of the Bloque Central Bolívar who demobilized in 2008, but allegedly remained active in criminal operations under the orders of the Clan del Golfo. He faces charges of aggravated homicide and illegal possession of firearms.
