Medellín authorities demolish former Pablo Escobar property

The Medellín Mayor's Office has begun the demolition of a house linked to the late drug trafficker Pablo Escobar. The property, which spans 1,854 square meters, had been abandoned for years and became a significant security and community coexistence issue.

According to municipal authorities, the building was being used for drug and alcohol consumption, sexual acts, and alleged satanic rituals. Acting Mayor Manuel Villa Mejía stated that the intervention aims to recover public space and prevent the promotion of 'narco-tourism' or the glorification of criminal history.

Records show the property was acquired in 1979 by Victoria Eugenia Henao, Escobar's wife. In 2004, the house was placed under precautionary measures by the Colombian Prosecutor General's Office, and in 2018, it was transferred to the Fund for Rehabilitation, Social Investment, and the Fight against Organized Crime.
