Medellín authorities demolish historic drug trafficking-linked stables

The Medellín Mayor's Office has demolished the former Dayro Chica stables located in the San Cristóbal district. The infrastructure, situated near the Lusitania Educational Institution, held historical ties to the Ochoa clan and the city's era of drug trafficking.

For years, the abandoned site had become a focal point for drug consumption, waste accumulation, and public health concerns. Residents expressed significant worry regarding the site's proximity to the school, noting the daily transit of children and adolescents through the area.

Manuel Villa Mejía, the Secretary of Security and Coexistence, stated that the demolition is part of a broader district strategy to intervene in deteriorated spaces and recover areas plagued by insecurity. The administration intends to continue working in San Cristóbal to prevent such locations from becoming critical points for illegal activities and to repurpose the land for community use.
