Medellín expels nine Venezuelan nationals over criminal records

Medellín Mayor Federico Gutiérrez announced the expulsion of nine Venezuelan citizens from Colombia following a joint operation involving the Mayor's Office, Migración Colombia, and the National Police. The authorities stated the measure was taken due to criminal records, investigations, and reports that posed a risk to public safety and coexistence.

Among those expelled, one individual reportedly holds kidnapping convictions in the United States and is under investigation for alleged ties to criminal organizations such as La Terraza, Clan del Golfo, and La Oficina. Other individuals in the group had accumulated between 14 and 27 citations for offenses including homicide, theft of mobile phones, possession of weapons, and document forgery.

Gutiérrez emphasized that the decision is based on legal conduct rather than nationality, stating that while those who come to work and invest are welcome, those who come to commit crimes will not have a place in the city. This action brings the total number of foreigners expelled from Medellín to 27 in recent weeks.
