Firefighters confront vehicle, house and forest blazes across Chile, Argentina, Colombia and Spain
In Chile, the Cuerpo de Bomberos de Temuco expanded its forest‑fire specialised capacity, adding the 4th, 10th and 12th companies to bring the total from one to four under Commander Claudio Fuentes. The move was presented as a response to rising urban‑forest interface fires and climate change.
In Argentina, a vehicle fire at the intersection of José María Rosa and Baigorria in Rosario completely destroyed the car, and two separate house fires in Chivilcoy were extinguished by volunteer firefighters with no serious injuries.
In Colombia, volunteer firefighters helped control a forest fire on Cerro Aminda near Cumbitara with assistance from the Colombian Air Force, the National Army and 35 volunteers from ten municipalities. The Tolima department reported 171 forest fires affecting more than 966 ha across 15 municipalities and appealed for national government support.
In Spain, a forest fire near the Islantilla Golf area in Lepe was elevated to operational phase 1, prompting the deployment of helicopters, cargo aircraft and ground crews. A separate forest fire in Oviñana, Asturias, produced a visible smoke column, leading to a multi‑municipality firefighting response.
