Medellín Mayor Federico Gutiérrez Responds to Fatal Popular Neighborhood Fire
A residential fire on July 15 in the Popular neighbourhood of Medellín left one woman dead and her partner seriously injured. The woman suffered third‑degree burns over 70 % of her body and died ten days after the blaze. Her partner sustained second‑degree burns to his abdomen and arms and is recovering in a northern Medellín hospital.
Mayor Federico Gutiérrez addressed the incident on the day it occurred, condemning the presumed arson attack, offering solidarity to the victims’ families, and announcing psychosocial support from the mayor’s office. Authorities continue investigations to determine the motive and identify any perpetrators.
