kidnapping Medellín American businessman crime investigation Minnesota resident

Colombian authorities have detained a suspect in connection with the kidnapping and murder of Tou Ger Xiong, a 50-year-old American businessman and comedian residing in Minnesota. The incident occurred in Medellín, specifically in the Robledo area, following a romantic date.

According to reports, Xiong had been in a six-month relationship with Gisela Mejía, whom he met in 2023. The relationship is alleged to have been a ruse to gain his trust for financial gain. On December 10, 2023, Xiong was intercepted by Mejía's 17-year-old boyfriend and three other men.

The group reportedly kidnapped Xiong, moved him to a mountainous area, and tortured him in an attempt to access his bank accounts. After failing to empty his accounts, the perpetrators forced him to call his brother to request a $2,000 transfer. Xiong was subsequently thrown from a cliff more than 80 meters high. His body was later recovered in a riverbed by Colombian special forces and the army.
