Medellín recognized as a rising global metropolis
Medellín has been identified as one of 28 emerging global destinations by the BBC, based on data from the Oxford Economics Global Cities Index. The analysis highlights the city's sustained economic dynamism and productive restructuring over the last two decades, noting that employment in the financial and business services sectors has doubled.
Oxford Economics projections suggest that by 2040, the average income in Medellín will surpass that of major regional hubs such as Buenos Aires and São Paulo. The city's public transportation infrastructure, specifically the Metro and Metrocable systems, was praised as a model for geographic connectivity and socioeconomic inclusion.
Urban renewal efforts were also noted, particularly in the Perpetuo Socorro neighborhood, which has established itself as a creative industry district. This area is part of Medellín's first Creative District and Economic Revitalization Area.
