Medellín sees high tourism activity and passenger surges
Medellín is seeing significant activity in the tourism and transport sectors. Despegar reports that more than 30% of its Colombian tourism operations originate from or are destined for the Antioquia capital. Local consumer behavior shows a preference for installment payments, with 55% to 65% of travelers using credit cards to pay in one to nine installments. Additionally, 40% of bookings in the city are made through physical stores, while 60% occur via digital channels.
In tandem with these trends, Terminales Medellín is preparing for a surge in passenger volume during the October school recess. Between October 2 and October 12, the North and South terminals project more than 715,000 travelers and approximately 61,000 vehicles. High-demand destinations include local municipalities such as Rionegro and Necoclí, as well as major national cities like Bogotá, Cali, and Cartagena. Authorities are increasing oversight to ensure safety and facilitate the movement of minors during this period.
