Medemblik updates spraying zone guidelines for sensitive areas

The municipality of Medemblik has updated its guidelines regarding spraying zones near sensitive functions. The updated guidance provides clarity for residents, employees, and project initiators regarding the assessment of spatial developments near agricultural lands where crop protection products are used.

The update follows recent rulings by the Council of State and practical experience from implementation. While a 50-meter buffer between agricultural plots and sensitive locations—such as homes, schools, and healthcare facilities—remains the standard, the new guidelines allow for customized solutions under specific conditions.

Customization is more likely for small-scale or temporary initiatives, such as pre-mantel care housing. However, the municipality will remain more cautious regarding deviations for larger developments like major housing projects or social facilities. Alderman Mark Hoogewerf stated that the goal is to ensure initiators know exactly what is required when requesting a deviation from the 50-meter rule.
