Montenegro legal updates: Asset seizures and high-profile corruption trials
Montenegro is seeing a series of significant legal developments involving high-profile criminal and corruption cases. In Podgorica, the Higher Court has ordered the temporary seizure of vehicles and the blocking of real estate in Sutvara belonging to Željko Ljepavić, who is suspected of money laundering.
In a separate major case, the Special State Prosecutor's Office (SDT) has requested the permanent seizure of assets from Stefan Janković, a convicted member of a criminal organization. The requested assets include real estate in Bar and several vehicles, including a BMW X5.
The Telekom privatization scandal continues to move through the courts, with the Higher Court in Podgorica scheduling hearings that are expected to include former President Milo Đukanović and his sister, Ana Đukanović. The investigation focuses on the 2005 sale of the state telecommunications company to Magyar Telekom.
Additionally, the retrial of Vesna Medenica and Milica Vlahović Milosavljević is underway. The defense has requested the recusal of Judge Branislav Leković, alleging bias, though the request was denied. Meanwhile, the SDT has dismissed a criminal complaint against Budva Mayor Nikola Jovanović and Davor Rakanović regarding a 500,000 euro claim, and a complaint against Mojsije Bulatović and Nenad Vlahović concerning a political banner.
