Medhi Benatia addresses departure from Olympique de Marseille

Medhi Benatia, the former football director of Olympique de Marseille (OM), has broken his silence following his departure, offering a blunt assessment of the club's recent failures. In a series of interviews, Benatia accepted personal responsibility for sporting shortcomings and the team's inability to maintain intensity, but firmly rejected claims that he caused the club's financial instability. He stated that the high volume of transfer movements was a structural legacy that predated his arrival.

Benatia leveled heavy criticism at both the locker room and management. He accused certain players of a lack of professionalism and inconsistent commitment, citing specific instances of improper behavior during training camps. He also expressed a sense of betrayal regarding his relationship with former president Pablo Longoria, noting that he left the club without a confidentiality clause because "the truth has no price."

Addressing his future, Benatia clarified his comments regarding Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). While acknowledging a good relationship with PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, he denied that his previous remarks were an immediate plea to join the rival club, though he did not rule out the possibility in the future. He is currently considering roles such as a football consultant.
