Media and Defense officials address conflict reporting and gender equality in Rome

In Rome, various stakeholders addressed the complexities of modern conflict, ranging from media representation to gender-based security policies.

During the inaugural “Women, Peace and Security” regatta, Italian Undersecretary of State for Defense Isabella Rauti emphasized the importance of United Nations Resolution 1325. She noted that the Italian Defense has systematically adopted this agenda to include gender perspectives in military operations and to recognize the specific impact of conflict on women, as well as their role in peacebuilding and post-conflict reconstruction.

Separately, a training event for Italian journalists focused on the challenges of reporting on “ignored conflicts.” The session explored why certain wars receive less media attention despite significant humanitarian crises, the influence of geopolitical interests on news visibility, and the risks posed by artificial intelligence in information ecosystems. Discussions also covered the relationship between conflict, financial markets, and the impact of state narratives on foreign policy.
