Media authorities in Guinea and Niger conduct regulatory and operational reviews

In Guinea, the Haute Autorité de la Communication (HAC) held a meeting in Kissidougou on October 9 to sensitize online media professionals regarding legal standards and administrative procedures. The mission, which included HAC commissioners and the local prosecutor, focused on the requirements for establishing online media and the importance of journalistic ethics to prevent legal disputes. During the session, media representatives highlighted challenges faced by journalists in regional areas, such as a lack of remuneration in some private stations.

In Niger, the Minister of Communication and New Information Technologies, Hamani Kargné, conducted a tour of public and private media structures in Agadez on October 8. The visit coincided with the launch of the Trans-Saharan fiber optic backbone connecting Niger to Algeria. The Minister visited various entities, including Radio et Télévision du Niger (RTN), the Nigerien Press Agency (ANP), and several private radio stations, to assess working conditions, equipment needs, and logistical challenges. Kargné emphasized the vital role of information in socio-economic development and pledged to review the difficulties reported by the staff.
