Media Council presidential candidates undergo parliamentary hearings

The Hungarian Parliament's special committee has begun hearings for eleven candidates seeking the presidency of the Media Council. The selection process aims to be more transparent and professional than in previous decades, with committee chairman István Hantosi noting that the decision should not be solely a matter of politics.

During the initial sessions, seven candidates were interviewed, including Imre Gerentsér, Tamás Jamriskó, Ervin Kajzinger, Klára Kaszó, István Komár, Gábor Sándor Németh, and Ferenc Rébeli-Szabó. The candidates presented leadership concepts focusing on independence, transparency, and restoring public trust.

Imre Gerentsér emphasized a human-centric approach to make the organization's functions better understood by the public and to help Hungarian professionals compete in the international digital market. Tamás Jamriskó stated the Council should act as a consistent sanctioner of rights violations rather than a market director. Ervin Kajzinger highlighted the need for accountability and independence to regain public confidence.
