Media giants The New York Times and News Corp report digital growth

Major media organizations The New York Times and News Corp reported strong growth driven by digital subscriptions and specialized professional information services.

The New York Times reported second-quarter revenue growth across subscriptions, advertising, and affiliate licensing. The company added 280,000 net new digital subscribers, bringing its total base to 13.4 million. Digital-only subscription revenue rose 16%, while total advertising revenue increased 11.3%. Chief Executive Officer Meredith Kopit Levien noted that the company is targeting a milestone of 15 million subscribers.

News Corp’s Dow Jones segment saw digital revenue reach 82% of its total segment revenue. The Wall Street Journal reported approximately 4.33 million digital-only subscriptions. Growth was bolstered by the professional information business, specifically in the Risk & Compliance and Energy sectors. Additionally, News Corp is pursuing AI licensing opportunities, having expanded a partnership with Bloomberg to include AI rights for Dow Jones content.
