Media groups challenge illegal broadcasting of Informer and Kurir in Serbia
Sixteen media associations and civil society organizations have submitted a request to Telekom Srbija to immediately cease the illegal terrestrial broadcasting of Informer, Kurir, and Blic television programs. While these channels hold permits for cable, satellite, and IPTV distribution, they lack authorization for national terrestrial broadcasting via antennas.
Legal experts and members of the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media (REM) Council, including Rodoljub Šabić, state that by unlocking encrypted channels on the MUX 3 multiplex, Telekom Srbija has bypassed regulatory authority and violated the Law on Electronic Media. Critics argue this action provides pro-government channels with national reach just before parliamentary elections, while simultaneously complicating the landscape for independent media.
The REM Council has reached a consensus to conduct monitoring of TV Informer as part of its pre-election oversight of national and cable television stations.
