Media outlets sue Trump administration over White House access bans

CNN, MS NOW, and Politico have filed a joint lawsuit against the Trump administration, alleging that the denial of access to the White House violates the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. The legal action follows the administration's decision to deactivate the access badges of reporters from these outlets, which President Donald Trump justified by labeling their coverage as ‘fake news.’

The administration maintains that White House access is a privilege rather than a right. As part of the fallout, CNN was removed from its scheduled pool duties, including coverage of the President's upcoming trip to the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Other television networks have expressed solidarity by temporarily suspending their participation in pool duties.

In response to the media friction, the White House has launched ‘Trump TV,’ a 24/7 broadcast service via YouTube titled ‘TRUMP TV: The Essentials Station.’ The platform aims to provide direct access to administration highlights, popular videos, and important statements.
