Congo officials and UNESCO promote responsible AI use in media
The Ministry of Communication and Media in the Republic of the Congo, in partnership with the UNESCO office in Brazzaville, held a roundtable discussion on October 30 regarding the rational and responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) in media and information literacy (MIL).
During the event, which was part of the Global Week of Media and Information Literacy, Minister Thierry Lézin Moungalla addressed the dual nature of AI. He noted that while the technology can produce information rapidly, it cannot guarantee truth or quality on its own. The discussions focused on the need for journalists to master these tools to combat disinformation while maintaining editorial responsibility, data protection, and human oversight.
Participants explored how AI can assist in document research, transcription, translation, and content production, while also addressing the risks of inaccuracy and the importance of critical thinking in the digital age.
