Media regulators in DRC and Gabon issue sanctions against journalists

Media regulators in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Gabon have issued sanctions against journalists and news outlets for professional misconduct.

In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Conseil Supérieur de l’Audiovisuel et de la Communication (CSAC) issued public reprimands to Paulette Kimuntu Ndombè of La Lione Télévision and Delphin Kasongo of Au Centre Télévision. The sanctions follow discriminatory remarks made during broadcasts on August 1, 2026. The CSAC stated the behavior failed to meet standards of professionalism, courtesy, and human dignity, warning that further violations could lead to more severe penalties.

In Gabon, the Haute Autorité de la Communication (HAC) suspended the online media outlet Info 241 indefinitely. The suspension follows the publication of an article containing unverified and injurious accusations against the President and his family. The HAC cited violations of the communication code regarding journalist responsibility and the verification of information, noting that the outlet was also operating in an irregular legal status.
