Media Research Center reports bias in Apple News and major networks
A study by the Media Research Center (MRC) alleges significant political bias in news curation by Apple News and major television networks during the midterm election period.
Regarding Apple News, the MRC analysis of the platform’s top 20 daily stories found that 84 headlines regarding Republican priorities were negative, while zero headlines presented those same issues in a positive light. The report claims that Republican voters were presented with approximately five stories per day negatively characterizing top policy priorities such as immigration, law and order, and drug enforcement.
Separately, the MRC examined evening newscasts from ABC, CBS, and NBC. The study found that these networks dedicated 56 minutes and 44 seconds to negative news regarding Republicans, compared to 18 minutes and 53 seconds of negative news concerning Democrats. The report suggests that audiences viewing these broadcasts were three times more likely to encounter negative coverage of Republicans than Democrats.
