Media restrictions and political allegations in Turkey

Journalist Gökçer Tahincioğlu has characterized recent increases in pressure against independent media in Turkey as an alarm bell. According to data from the Dicle Fırat Journalists Association, 3,492 pieces of digital content faced access restrictions in September 2026, alongside the blocking of 15 news sites and the closure of four internet sites. These measures have targeted various outlets, including T24, Halk TV, and several Kurdish media platforms.

Simultaneously, political tensions have risen regarding allegations of fund misappropriation involving members of the AKP. While representatives from the Yeni Parti had previously claimed to possess a list of individuals involved in these scandals, including high-ranking officials, the promised disclosure of these documents has not yet occurred. Opposition figures have criticized the delay, suggesting that the lack of transparency may serve to dilute the impact of the allegations.
