MediaTek introduces Dimensity 9600M chipset with enhanced AI capabilities

MediaTek has introduced the Dimensity 9600M, a new flagship chipset that emphasizes advanced artificial intelligence capabilities over significant hardware changes. Built using TSMC’s 3nm process, the chip maintains much of the hardware foundation found in the Dimensity 9500, including an octa-core CPU configuration led by an Arm C1-Ultra core clocked at up to 4.21GHz.

The primary upgrades reside in the software and AI layers. The chipset features the MediaTek NPU 990, which supports the new Agentic AI Engine and Dimensity Scheduling Engine 3.0. These tools enable the device to run sophisticated on-device AI models, such as Gemini Nano 4 and Qwen 3.5 Omni 4B, facilitating tasks like text-to-image generation and camera agent support.

Technical specifications include support for LPDDR5X memory, UFS 4.1 storage, and an Arm Mali-G1 Ultra MC12 GPU. Connectivity options include 3GPP Release 17 5G, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 6.0. The platform is designed to enhance user experiences through smarter system management and improved AI-driven performance.
