In Mexico, Active Medical has introduced the Vivi Cap, an innovative container designed to maintain insulin at the required temperature. Using space technology, the device absorbs and releases heat to ensure insulin remains between 2 and 8 degrees Celsius, or does not exceed 30 degrees once in use. The device requires no refrigeration or batteries for temperature regulation, though it features a light indicator and a battery that can last up to seven years. There are efforts to include this tool in the basic health sector's essential medicine list to provide it to patients at no cost.

In Chile, health experts are warning of a rise in insulin resistance, a metabolic condition that often precedes type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Alejandra Ponce, an academic at Universidad Andrés Bello, attributes the increase to lifestyle changes, including high-calorie diets, sedentary behavior, increased stress, and poor sleep patterns. This condition occurs when cells lose their ability to respond effectively to insulin, forcing the body to produce higher amounts to regulate blood sugar.
