Medical advancements and social awareness highlighted in Italy

The 10th edition of the Borgia Film Festival opened with a focus on multiple sclerosis, utilizing cinema as a tool for social inclusion and awareness. During the inaugural evening, representatives from the Italian Multiple Sclerosis Society (AISM) and medical professionals discussed how new therapies are creating significant possibilities for the future of patients.

In the field of oncology, medical experts are advocating for a shift toward simultaneous care. Rather than providing palliative care only after active treatments fail, this model integrates supportive care with active oncological therapies from the moment of diagnosis for advanced or metastatic diseases. Dr. Vincenzo Bianco of Policlinico Umberto I noted that this approach addresses the physical, psychological, and social needs of patients, potentially improving survival rates and treatment efficacy.
