Medical advancements in oncoplastic surgery and lipedema treatment
Medical specialists are highlighting advancements in reconstructive and specialized surgical treatments for chronic conditions. In Argentina, plastic surgeon Martín Fernández emphasized the importance of oncoplastic surgery in breast cancer treatment. This interdisciplinary approach integrates aesthetics and reconstruction with oncological care to improve patients' emotional health and quality of life.
In Spain, during the 48th Congress of the European Society of Lymphology in Valencia, surgeon Alexo Carballeira Braña presented a three-step protocol for treating lipedema. Lipedema is a chronic disease involving abnormal adipose tissue accumulation, primarily in women. Experts noted that while weight loss and bariatric surgery can help, they do not cure the condition, making specialized surgical interventions like liposuction essential for symptom management and pain relief.
