Medical advancements in Poland: Robotic and radiofrequency cancer treatments
Medical professionals in Poland have achieved significant milestones in minimally invasive cancer treatments using advanced technologies.
In Gdańsk, St. Wojciech Hospital performed the first gastric cancer resections in the Pomeranian region using the da Vinci robotic system. The procedures, conducted by a surgical team including Dr. Tomasz Cwaliński, involved removing parts of the stomach and lymph nodes. The robotic system provides surgeons with a high-magnification 3D view, allowing for precise work near vital organs and vessels, which aims to reduce bleeding and accelerate patient recovery.
In Warsaw, the National Institute of Oncology conducted Poland's first endoscopic radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of an adrenal adenoma. The procedure, performed by Professor Marcin Polkowski, utilized radio waves to destroy a tumor via an endoscope under ultrasound guidance. This method avoids traditional open surgery and was broadcast live as part of the Warsaw Live Endoscopy event.
