Romania reports medical milestones in cardiovascular and orthopedic procedures

Romania has seen several significant medical advancements and successful complex procedures across different specialties.

In Bucharest, a medical team at the Emergency Clinical Hospital performed a national first: a transcatheter orthotopic tricuspid valve replacement. The minimally invasive procedure, led by Professor Horațiu Moldovan, involved inserting a biological valve through the jugular vein to treat a 65-year-old patient with severe tricuspid insufficiency, avoiding the high risks of open-heart surgery.

In Botoșani, doctors successfully treated a 50-year-old patient suffering from an acute myocardial infarction. The intervention required complex coronary angioplasty and stenting to address both acute and chronic total occlusions (CTO) in the coronary arteries.

Additionally, in Suceava, a medical premiere in the Moldavia region involved using a patient's own stem cells, harvested from abdominal fat, to help regenerate cartilage damaged by osteoarthritis. This procedure aims to reduce pain and slow joint degradation for patients in early to moderate stages of the condition.
