Medical advancements in Turkey involve rare bladder surgery and lung cancer cryoablation

Medical professionals in Turkey have reported significant advancements in specialized cancer treatments. In Giresun, surgeons at Prof. Dr. İlhan Özdemir State Hospital performed a rare radical cystectomy and urinary diversion on a 67-year-old patient with a congenital pelvic kidney anomaly and bladder cancer. The surgical team noted that the patient possessed an unusual vascular structure, including four arteries and three veins, making the procedure highly complex. This case is reported as the first of its kind in Turkey and only the fourth such instance documented in global medical literature.

In Antalya, doctors at Medical Park Antalya Hospital successfully utilized cryoablation to treat lung cancer in a 71-year-old patient. The procedure involved using specialized needles and probes under local anesthesia to freeze and neutralize two tumor masses in both lungs. The non-surgical approach allowed the patient to remain conscious during the 1.5-hour procedure and be discharged on the same day.
