Medical advancements offer new hope for pancreatic cancer and multiple myeloma patients

Medical advancements are providing new options for cancer patients, specifically regarding pancreatic cancer and multiple myeloma. In the United States, a new drug for pancreatic cancer has been approved. While oncologists note that this is not a total cure for advanced or metastatic stages, it represents a significant improvement for patient prognosis in groups with limited existing treatment options.

In the field of hematology, researchers are reporting progress in treating multiple myeloma. Professor Andrzej Jakubowiak from the University of Chicago noted that advancements over the last 25 years have moved the disease toward the possibility of functional cures. Results from the MRD2STOP study showed that 92 percent of patients remained free of detectable residual disease three years after ending maintenance therapy. In Poland, the number of patients utilizing specific drug programs for myeloma has more than doubled between 2023 and 2025.
