Medical advancements reported in Chile and Mexico
The Dr. Hernán Henríquez Aravena Hospital (HHHA) in Chile has successfully performed its first total wrist arthroplasty surgeries. This procedure, which replaces damaged joint surfaces with prosthetic components to reduce pain and preserve mobility, was conducted with the support of specialists from Madrid, Spain. The collaboration aims to address patient waiting lists and provide training for the HHHA Hand and Microsurgery team to incorporate the procedure into their regular services.
In Mexico, the IMSS Bienestar program provided a free cranial surgery to a nine-month-old infant in Pachuca to treat craniosynostosis. The condition, which involves the premature closing of skull sutures, can limit brain development. Using high-precision medical equipment, specialists performed the corrective procedure at the Pachuca General Hospital of High Specialty, highlighting the availability of specialized technology and personnel in the public health sector.
