Medical advice for preparing for the influenza vaccine

Medical professionals and nutritionists recommend simple lifestyle adjustments to prepare for the influenza vaccine, emphasizing hydration and a balanced diet. Dr. Jonathan Yadlosky suggests that a healthy diet and increased hydration are sufficient for preparation.

Experts recommend increasing fluid intake by approximately 500 milliliters per day in the days leading up to vaccination to help the body maintain temperature, which is useful as fever is a potential side effect. Nurse Patricia Stinchfield suggests drinking an extra glass or two of water daily and notes that having a snack and water immediately before the injection can help prevent fainting, a common reaction particularly in adolescents.

While no single food guarantees a better reaction to the vaccine, nutritionist Roxana Ehsani recommends a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, fish, nuts, whole grains, beans, and lentils to support the immune system. A simple dietary goal is to include at least three different natural colors on the plate at each meal.
