Artificial intelligence transforms medical diagnostics and cardiology

Artificial intelligence is rapidly integrating into clinical practice, transforming fields such as cardiology and oncology. At the European Society of Cardiology Congress in Munich, experts emphasized that while AI can act as a “copilot” to enhance physician performance and identify patterns invisible to the human eye, medical responsibility remains with the doctor and cannot be transferred to machines.

In oncology, new AI models are being developed to detect early warning signs of cancer in medical imaging, even when current exams appear normal. This capability is particularly significant in regions like Chile, where early detection could impact high cancer incidence rates. Similarly, healthcare provider Grupo Gamma has implemented Transpara Breast AI software to provide a systematic second layer of security in mammography readings, specifically to assist in identifying lesions in dense breast tissue.

Despite these advancements, experts warn of potential risks, including overreliance on technology which could weaken clinical judgment. Research indicates that 64% of 50 European countries already utilize some form of AI in their healthcare systems, primarily for diagnosis and medical imaging. The focus is now shifting toward deeper integration and managing the balance between technological assistance and human medical expertise.
