Medical and academic sectors strengthen response to aging populations

Medical and academic institutions in Spain and Mexico are strengthening efforts to address the challenges of aging populations through specialized training and professional collaboration.

In Spain, the Spanish Society of Primary Care Physicians (SEMERGEN) and the Spanish Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology (SEGG) have signed an agreement to enhance cooperation. The partnership aims to exchange information and develop joint actions to manage increasing rates of chronic illness, multi-pathology, and frailty. The collaboration focuses on improving training, research, and seminars to create a more coordinated care model for the elderly.

In Mexico, the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México (UAEMéx) is reinforcing its commitment to gerontology training. Rector Martha Patricia Zarza Delgado emphasized the discipline's role in addressing the social and economic needs of an aging society. The university is also implementing an institutional policy to integrate care perspectives across its academic community.
