Medical Arbitration Commission resolves healthcare disputes in 48 hours

The State Medical Arbitration Commission in Tamaulipas has reported that it is resolving hospital-related issues, such as pending appointments, surgeries, and supplies, within a maximum of 48 hours through direct communication with public and private institutions. Tofic Salum Fares, president of the commission, stated that the organization acts as a conciliatory link between patients and institutions like IMSS, ISSSTE, and IMSS Bienestar to prevent disputes from escalating into legal proceedings.

Despite these successes, Salum Fares acknowledged ongoing challenges in public hospitals, specifically regarding surgical delays caused by a shortage of specialists and insufficient medical supplies. In critical cases of shortages, particularly within ISSSTE, the commission has coordinated the transfer of medications and supplies from other cities to ensure treatment continuity. The commission also intervenes in cases of improper charges or perceived inadequate care, aiming to serve as an ally for patients seeking to resolve grievances without filing criminal complaints.
