Medical Association of Athens launches probe into fatal phlebotomy case

The Medical Association of Athens (ISA) has launched a disciplinary investigation into two doctors involved in a case concerning a phlebotomy procedure that resulted in the death of a patient. Following an inspection of the site where the procedure allegedly took place, the ISA's Board of Directors decided to initiate an ex officio disciplinary inquiry.

The association is also pursuing administrative procedures to recommend the suspension of the doctors' medical licenses to the Panhellenic Medical Association, citing the criminal prosecution for the offense of exposing a patient to fatal consequences. Furthermore, the ISA has declared its intention to participate in the criminal proceedings to support the prosecution, stating that such violations of medical legislation damage the honor and reputation of the medical profession.
