Medical Association of Athens promotes breast cancer screening and committee reforms
The Medical Association of Athens (ISA) is issuing a call for women to utilize free breast cancer screening services provided through the ‘Fofi Gennimata’ national program. Under the ‘PROLAMVANO’ initiative, women aged 45 to 74 who meet specific criteria can access digital mammography, ultrasounds, and clinical examinations at no cost. ISA President Giorgos Patoulis emphasized that early diagnosis is critical for effective treatment and noted that post-treatment care should also prioritize mental health and quality of life.
Separately, the Medical Association of Athens is reorganizing its Inspection Committees to strengthen its role in promoting public health and the proper practice of the medical profession. Operating as a self-governing body funded by its members rather than the state, ISA seeks to collaborate with member physicians to staff these committees. Requirements for participating doctors include active professional status, digital literacy, and English proficiency. Remuneration for these inspections is set between 30 and 150 euros plus VAT, depending on the type and location of the facility being inspected.
