Medical Association of Athens seeks clarity on primary healthcare procedures

The Medical Association of Athens (ISA) has issued a formal request to scientific societies and the Central Health Council to establish a clear framework regarding medical procedures and equipment within primary healthcare providers.

The association highlights significant legal ambiguities, noting that current legislation does not specifically define the scope of medical acts that can be performed by general practitioners versus specialists. ISA is also seeking clarification on the types of medical equipment permitted in clinics and polyclinics to ensure they align with the services provided and the limits of primary care.

In its communication, the ISA emphasized that the recent tragic death of a well-known singer necessitates a reflection by the medical community and urgent initiatives to ensure patient safety. The association noted that previous attempts to address these issues had not been successful.
